A young promising 3rd
baseman seemingly given away by the Senators to an eventual long residency in
Detroit.....a shot of youth and savior for a then aging franchise, replacing Don Wert, a player whose claim to fame was that his name was easiest to spell on a standard keyboard ....completed
eight more campaigns in Tiger town...a case of glove over bat but Aurelio held
his own....professional career started with stints in the Mexican League...scooped
up to America by the Angels...swapped to Senators in a exchange of 3rd
basemen....best all around year was with the Nats, personal highs of home runs
(19) and RBIs....Senators sent left side of their infield and pitcher Joe
Coleman....Aurelio is known by card collectors by the 1969 gaffe of an Angel
batboy picture....greatest on field moment was hitting a home run in support of
Mark Fydrich’s win on National TV 1976.....finished last 3 years of his career
with short stops with San Diego, NY Yankees, Chicago WS, Orioles, and White Sox
again.....died in car accident at young age of 52.
