#422 Ray Lamb

Hurler with a undefined role...never could establish self as starter or fireman...mostly a long reliever....and obscured by others...most notably was a member University of Southern California during the Tom Seaver years....drafted by local LA Dodgers....breezed thru low minors but roughed up further on...never the less given a late season trial in 1969 and stayed in 1970....6-1 record despite 4.00+ ERA....took his winning record to Cleveland...1971 his most active season..... equaled his number of wins, unfortunately had 11 more losses...did lower his ERA that year, a feat he repeated in 1972 when he went 5-6....Final season in bigs and as a professional was 1973...went 3-3 with a ERA of 4.60.... Released spring of 1974.

  1. He's a Dodger in that photo, and also the only Dodger to wear No. 42 since Jackie Robinson (except for all those guys who Jackie Robinson Day).

  2. Interesting about his number Lamb wore 42 in his 1969 call up. I was going to put in that it's a horrible air brush job but somehow forgot in the final edit. Thank you

  3. It is even worse when you consider they had a picture of him in a Cleveland cap for his 1971 card, a spring training shot, but couldn't find one for his 1972 card. after he had actually played for the team.

  4. you're right he was an Indian in the 1971. I would loved to work for Topps in the early 70's..."what you lost the Ray Lamb photo...OK let find a old Dodger one and put a C on the blue cap"
