  1. I still have the 1977 Hockey Handbook! Found it in a used bookstore in Pasadena about 15 years ago. Paid 50 cents for it. Great Slap Shot photos inside!

  2. If you look around used bookstores, a person can find the handbooks for pretty cheap and sometimes on ebay. (I never pay over $7 book and S/H.) My collection with the 1976 Hockey book given as a Christmas present. I would get one each year well into the 1980's. Then about 20 years ago through book stores I found editions starting at 1971-72 season. I will still buy one even if I have a copy. I have a collection of 9 hockey guides coming in the mail today or tomorrow.

    1. I have all of them from 1971 to 1997. Love those player profiles. Awesome and priceless collection. Zander Hollander will ALWAYS be for me the best handbook writer of All-Time.

  4. I miss the turn of phrase and sometimes pointed reviews. Some wording I still use to this day: One remember one in particular about slugger George Scott: "Just a big puppy dog who wants to be loved." I still use that in conversation about me or others. Recently I have acquired the 1971-73 edition. As a kid I did buy some baseball editions but not all the time because there would be someone I knew that had one. I did go for the hockey edition because it was a bit more obscure and all ways changing, it would be my way of getting full team stats, trades, draft choices, and franchise moves.
